Honey Treat Yogurt is Back, Baby!

It’s the height of summer, the kind of summer that begs for flip-flops, spontaneous drives, and a cold treat in your hand.

You know the feeling: car seats are hot to the touch, music’s up loud and windows are down, the air smells like sunscreen and asphalt, and the only thing on your mind is finding a way to cool down. It’s the season of long golden hours, breezy dresses, sticky fingers, and chasing that perfect bite of something icy and sweet. For me, nothing says summer quite like Honey Treat Yogurt.

But it’s more than just a place to grab a frozen yogurt. It’s a time machine. A tradition. A little piece of my childhood, teenage years, and early adulthood all scooped into one cup.

Growing up, anytime my mom and I would take a shopping trip to Reno, it was an unwritten rule that we’d end our day at Honey Treat. Whether we were celebrating a good find or just soaking up time together, it was our ritual, no matter the weather, no matter what was going on in life. A sweet treat (no pun intended), was always waiting at the end of our day.

In high school, when life felt like it was unraveling, friend drama, academic pressure, or just one of those “everything is too much” kind of days, my mom would look at me and say, “Let’s go for a drive.” And that drive often ended at Honey Treat. Somehow, talking it out over frozen yogurt made the world feel manageable again.

Even in my early 20s, during a brief (and slightly dramatic) phase where I tried a restrictive fad diet, Honey Treat was the one “approved” indulgence that kept me sane and gave me something to look forward to!

It was comforting. It was consistent. And then, one day… it was gone. Closed up, doors shut, and with it, what felt like the end of an era. I, just like many others, was froyo heartbroken.

But now, just in time for a new season of memory-making, Honey Treat is back, baby!! Reopened inside the Reno Public Market as of July 5, and sweeter than ever!

Their grand opening was just yesterday, and you better believe I was there the second those curtains rose! Walking in felt like stepping into a time capsule laced with vanilla and nostalgia. Same classic vibes. Same creamy, dreamy yogurt. Same toppings bar that makes you feel like a kid in a candy store. Whether you’re a die-hard swirl purist or someone who believes frozen yogurt should come buried in crushed Oreos, strawberries, or mini gummy bears (guilty!), Honey Treat has you covered.

As soon as we heard Honey Treat was finally reopening, my mom, my sister-in-law, and I knew exactly how we were spending our afternoon. We piled into the car, buzzing with excitement, already deep in nostalgic storytelling and high-stakes hype. For my sister-in-law, this would be her very first Honey Treat experience, and my mom and I? Well, we made sure she knew she was in for something special. The pressure was on. But trust me, it delivered!

Let’s start with my order: classic chocolate frozen yogurt, topped with fresh strawberries and yogurt chips.

From the first spoonful, I was home. The chocolate froyo was impossibly smooth, like velvet on the tongue, with a rich, cocoa-forward flavor that was indulgent without being too sweet. It had that perfectly creamy, slightly airy texture that only Honey Treat seems to get perfectly right. Paired with the bright burst of the fresh strawberries, which added a natural tartness and juicy contrast, every bite struck that beautiful balance between decadent and refreshing. The yogurt chips added just the right amount of crunch and tangy creaminess to round out the experience. It was everything I remembered, and somehow, even better!

Next up: my sister-in-law’s first-ever Honey Treat creation: vanilla froyo with brownie bites and fresh strawberries.

She took one bite, paused, and then looked at us with awe. “Okay… you guys weren’t exaggerating,” she said. “This really is so good.” And, you guessed it, she wasn’t wrong! The vanilla frozen yogurt was creamy and light, with that classic sweet cream taste that’s anything but boring. But what really made her cup shine was the quality of the toppings. She was genuinely impressed that the strawberries tasted fresh, not icy, not syrupy, just vibrant and ripe. “They don’t have that frozen taste,” she said, and we all nodded in agreement. The brownie bites were soft and chocolatey, with that rich, fudgy texture that felt homemade. Paired together, the combo was like a sundae dream, sweet, slightly tart, chewy, and silky all at once!

And finally, my mom went with something light, bright, and summer-ready: non-dairy watermelon froyo with coconut shavings and yogurt chips. This one was a tropical daydream in a cup. The watermelon flavor was bold and juicy, like biting into a chilled slice of melon on a hot day. It was refreshing, slightly tangy, and completely dairy-free, yet still creamy enough to feel indulgent. The coconut shavings added that subtle tropical sweetness, while the yogurt chips brought in a little creamy crunch to balance the brightness of the fruit. It was the kind of treat you want on a sweltering afternoon: cooling, light, and full of flavor!

Three different orders, three totally different flavor profiles, and all three of us left already talking about what combos we’d try next. Honey Treat didn’t just meet our expectations… it reminded us why it’s been a part of our story all these years.

Honey Treat isn’t just a dessert spot. It’s a homecoming.

For those of us who grew up with Honey Treat, it’s a return to simpler times, when a good day ended with frozen yogurt piled high and a car ride home with the windows down. For the locals who’ve loved them for decades, it’s a small but powerful piece of their past, brought back to life. And for those discovering it for the first time, it’s the beginning of something special (just ask my sister-in-law)! One of those places that quietly weaves itself into your story.

There’s something beautiful about how a single bite can take you back: to sticky summer afternoons, shared laughs over a toppings bar, the comfort of your mom sitting beside you asking, “What’s really going on?” Honey Treat has always been about more than yogurt. It’s about connection, tradition, and the little moments that turn into lifelong memories.

So if you find yourself anywhere near Reno this summer, do yourself a favor: go grab a cup. (And just a heads up, the photos you see here show the "small", complimentary sizes from the grand opening promo… so trust me, the regular portions will not disappoint either!) So go, let the cold hit your fingertips, let the nostalgia rush in with the first bite, and maybe, just maybe, bring your mom or dad along for the ride. Odds are, they’ve got a Honey Treat memory or two of their own. And if they don’t yet, this is the perfect summer to make one!

Because some places don’t just serve treats, they serve stories. And Honey Treat? Well… it’s one of the sweetest ones I know.
